Privacy Policy

This document explains how Livo collects, uses, and protects your personal information. It applies to everyone who uses the Livo mobile application or related services.

1. Who we are
Livo is a community marketplace that connects people in South Africa, Mozambique, and Angola to local rides, restaurants, and events. Livo is operated by its founders, Pierre van Rooyen and Elvera Strydom.

2. What data we collect
We only collect what we need to operate the service.
When you sign in (via Google):
- Your name (first and last)
- Your email address
- Your profile photo (optional, from Google)
- A phone number, if you choose to add one for ride coordination
When you use Livo:
- Listings you create (restaurant entries, event entries, ride offers or requests)
- Ride history (pickup, drop-off, time, driver/rider names)
- Restaurant and event interactions (bookings, saves, reviews)
- Points and rewards activity
- Messages exchanged with other users in the context of a listing
When you have an active ride:
- Approximate location (driver and rider) for the duration of the ride only. Location tracking stops as soon as the ride ends.
Automatically, on every device:
- A device identifier (used to deliver push notifications)
- Usage and analytics data — which screens and features you use, app version, device type, and basic performance/diagnostics. We collect this automatically through Google Analytics for Firebase (GA4) to understand how Livo is used and to improve it. This is collected on a legitimate-interest basis and does not require a separate opt-in; it is not used for advertising and is not linked to an advertising identifier (Livo ships no advertising ID).
- Approximate IP-based location, used only for fraud prevention and language defaults
We do not collect: government ID numbers, financial account details, biometric data, or any data about children under 13.
3. Why we collect it

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
4. Legal basis for processing
We process your information on these legal bases:
- Your consent — by tapping "Sign in" you accept this policy and agree to the processing described here. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
- Contract performance — once you have an account, we need to process certain data to deliver the service you asked for (e.g. matching you to a ride).
- Legitimate interest — fraud prevention, security, and product analytics. We collect usage and analytics data (via Google Analytics for Firebase) under this basis to operate and improve the service; because it relies on our legitimate interest rather than consent, we do not ask for a separate analytics opt-in. You may object to this processing at any time by emailing privacy@livo.africa, and you can stop all collection by deleting your account.
- Legal obligation — where we must keep records or respond to lawful authorities.
This policy is structured to comply with Mozambique's Lei nº 22/2009 (Lei do Consumidor), South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA, Act 4 of 2013), and Angola's Lei nº 22/11 (Lei da Protecção de Dados Pessoais).
5. Sharing your information
We share data only in these specific situations:
- Other users on a listing. A driver sees the rider's first name and pickup point. A restaurant sees the booker's name and party size. An event host sees the attendee's name. Nothing more is exposed by default.
- Google. When you sign in, Google authenticates you. Google's own privacy policy applies to that authentication step.
- Service providers we use to run Livo. Cloud hosting, push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), and analytics/diagnostics (Google Analytics for Firebase). These providers are bound by contracts requiring them to handle your data only as instructed by us. Analytics data is processed in aggregate to measure usage and improve the app; it is not sold and not used for advertising.
- Lawful requests. If a competent authority issues a valid legal order, we may disclose specific data — and we will tell you unless legally prohibited.
- Business transfers. If Livo is ever sold or merged, your data transfers to the new owner under the same protections; you will be notified in advance.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers.
6. Retention
We keep your data only as long as we need it:
- Account data — for as long as your account exists.
- Ride and booking history — for 36 months after the activity, then anonymised for analytics.
- Location data from active rides — automatically deleted within 30 days.
- Support correspondence — 24 months.
- Records required by law (e.g. tax) — for the period the law requires.
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise everything within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep specific records longer.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Delete your account and your personal information
- Object to certain types of processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Port your data to another service in a common format
- Lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@livo.africa. We will respond within 30 days.
You can also delete your account directly in the app: Settings → Account & Privacy → Delete Account. (If this option is not yet available in your version of the app, email us.)

- Mozambique — Comissão Nacional de Protecção de Dados (when designated)
- Angola — Agência de Protecção de Dados (https://www.apd.ao)
8. Children
Livo is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created a Livo account, email privacy@livo.africa and we will delete the account.
Drivers must be 18 or older and hold a valid driver's licence under the laws of the country where they drive.
9. International transfers
Livo's servers are hosted in Europe (currently the Netherlands). When you use Livo from South Africa, Mozambique, or Angola, your data crosses borders to reach our servers. We rely on standard contractual safeguards with our hosting providers to protect your data during transfer and at rest.
If we change hosting region, we will update this policy.
10. Security
We protect your data with:
- HTTPS encryption for all traffic between the app and our servers
- Encrypted storage at rest
- Restricted internal access (only staff who need it for their role)
- Routine security review of dependencies and infrastructure
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authority within 72 hours, in line with POPIA section 22 and the equivalent obligations in Mozambique and Angola.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version and effective date are always shown at the top of this page.
If we make a material change (one that meaningfully affects your rights or how we handle your data), we will notify you in the app and ask you to accept the new version before continuing to use Livo.

Livo is a community-built service. If anything in this policy is unclear, please tell us — we will try to fix it.
